Guiding questions that individuals considering a role in a family business should ask themselves:
“What do I want?”,
“Benden önceki nesillerin ayak izlerini doldurmaya istekli miyim?”,
“How will I handle the responsibility I’m about to take on?”
“Does my family support me in this role?”,
“Do I have the ability and competence to do this?”
“Can I put my skills to use in a different role outside the family business?”
These questions actually provide a universal self-assessment framework in terms of a sense of responsibility, family support, and career guidance.
The vast majority of the younger generation is entering the workforce with a much stronger foundation than previous generations. They have access to better educational opportunities and a wider range of life choices. Their higher level of qualifications also increases their freedom of choice. For this reason, the new generation is not content to simply carry on the family business; they want to choose the field where they can most effectively utilize their potential from among the alternatives available to them. Consequently, the most significant contribution the new generation brings to the business world is the ability to enhance both individual and organizational success by applying their talents and energy in the most suitable environment.
